June Holiday Assignment 2010
Memorable quotes from "Off Centre"
Act 4 Scene 1, Pg 103
" Datta, Dayadhvam, Damyata. Give, sympathise, control."
Questions
1. In your opinion, how key is the parent-child relationship to Vinod's inevitable end?
The relationship between him & his parents played a big part in Vinod's inevitable.
Because his parents are vey high profile people, they are busy with their work 24/7, thus Vinod doesn't receives much parental love or care from them, which might be one of the reasons for Vinod's hatred towards them.
We can tell that Vinod truly loves his parents as even though we clearly see his resentment towards his parents, he would sometimes excuse them for their behaviour & tries to explain to Saloma & HIMSELF that the problem might lie with him instead or just that his parents are different from him.
2."Vinod's high expectations of himself caused his downfall" To what extent do you agree with this analysis of Vinod's predicament & tragedy?
3. Discuss the reasons for Saloma's transformation in the play.
